Etihad Airways (Arabic: الإتحاد, ʼal-ittiħād, meaning Union, Unity) is a flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates. Established by Royal decree in July 2003 and based in Abu Dhabi, Etihad commenced operations in November 2003.
The airline operates more than 1,300 flights per week to 85 passenger and cargo destinations in 55 countries, with a fleet of 67 Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
In 2011, Etihad carried 8.3 million passengers, a 17% increase on the previous year, delivering revenues of US$ 4.1 billion and net profits of US$ 14 million. Etihad was awarded the World’s Leading Airline in 2009, 2010 and 2011 by the World Travel Awards. (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etihad_Airways)
Currently, Etihad Airways (EY) ranks 6th place in the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2012. And as I’ve said in a related post, EY deserves this slot, if not higher, 🙂
Whenever I travel going home (ave. 9 hours flight), I prefer to fly with either EY or EK as they provide the best service at great fares.
Travelling via EY means there will be a short stopover at the AUH airport, but you wouldn’t so much notice the time pass by as there’s a lot to see and do. Free Wifi and net portals, Duty Free Shops, numerous passenger lounges (there’s separate for smokers, i saw at least two hehe), cafes and restos, a book shop, souvenir shop, art exhibits all over, et al. By the time you finish checking these out, it’s time to board! 🙂
I’ve flown with EY for return trips BAH-AUH-MNL in Sep 2010 and Feb 2012, and have booked them as well for the coming Dec 2012 holidays, 🙂
The roomiest seats / legroom, superb food, friendly cabin crew, unlimited inflight entertainment options, modern airport facilities, and the list goes on… 🙂
