This post is part of a series on our trip to Qatar in August 2012, approaching the end of Ramadan until the celebration of Eid Al Fitr. It was the height of summer, but the hot weather didn’t totally stop us from exploring Qatar as much as we can.
So, after having ice cream at The Pearl Qatar, we were off to our next destination, Aspire Zone!
The Aspire Zone (also known as Doha Sports City) is a world class sports complex in Al Waab District, Doha, Qatar.
Aspire Zone is a 250 hectare facility featuring Khalifa Stadium, Hamad Aquatic Center, Aspire Dome, The Torch Tower, and near my dream mall, Villaggio.🙂
Khalifa International Stadium was named after Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar’s former Emir. It is an important part of the Doha Sports City complex and has hosted a number of major sport events since 2004, and geared to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Bongga!
Honestly, what I primarily wanted to see was the Villaggio Shopping Mall (which was just adjacent to Aspire). I’ve read about it online and saw photos of its interiors. I wanted to visit the Gondolania Park, and if i could, actually ride a gondola.🙂
Unfortunately, due to a fire incident last May which also caused the death of many including young kids, it was closed until further notice.
Prior to our trip there were unconfirmed reports online that Villaggio would be reopened on 15th August in line with the coming Eid Al Fitr holidays. I was crossing my fingers it would be true; then we’d have a chance to visit it by then.
I guess the reopening plans didn’t push through as when we went to visit (twas 18th August) it was still closed. Well, it will be one more reason to go back to Doha.
The Torch Tower. It was massive…. It was so up close I was straining my neck looking up its 300m height from the ground. It was like a uniquely shaped giant Christmas tree with overload of colorful lights.🙂
Wouldn’t it be nice to stay in one of its suites when I get back to Doha? Mashallah. :)
It was late evening when we were there so it was dark and not able to see much of Aspire Zone. Check out the Aspire Park Brochure for its other attractions and features.
We enjoyed a bit more of the night views of Aspire, admiring the lights of the Torch… and then finally agreed to call it a day, este night na pala.
Special thanks to Jerome and wifey who generously toured us with their red Bumblebee.🙂
Incidentally, the moon has been appeared, meaning, Eid Al Fitr na mga kapuso!
EID MUBARAK PIPOLS!
Definitely excited to celebrate the First Day of Eid Al Fitr tomorrow! 🙂🙂🙂
(Hindi naman masyadong obvious bah)🙂
