Up in the Air with Turkish Airlines

On our recent Eid Al Adha holiday trip to Oman, we had the opportunity to fly via Turkish Airlines, currently ranking 7th among the World’s Top Airlines as per Skytrax World Airline Awards 2012.

Choosing to fly via Turkish Airlines to and fro Muscat was basically due to same reasons we chose British Airways during our recent Eid Al Fitr holiday trip in Qatar  – lowest rate, flight times and siempre, the airline experience. 🙂

Turkish Airlines (TurkishTürk Hava Yolları) (İMKBTHYAO) is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey, headquartered in the Turkish Airlines General Management Building on the grounds of Atatürk Airport in Yeşilköy, Bakırköy, Istanbul

aboard TK, BAH-MCT

It operates scheduled services to 163 international and 41 domestic cities (38 domestic airports), serving a total of 204 airports, in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. With an increase to 91 destination countries, the carrier’s destination network from one hub is the world’s largest.

Al Maha International Hotel, Muscat

Located in Al Ghubra district, at the heart of Muscat, we stayed at Al Maha International Hotel during our Eid Al Adha holiday in Oman.

We chose it primarily due its location (within Muscat) and proximity to Seeb airport, as well as within our budget, siempre. 🙂

Al Maha International Hotel

The hotel isn’t really hard to find, but because I was swamped with paperworks prior to the trip (excuses, excuses), I forgot to print the exact location address of the hotel. All I remembered was that it was near the beach and the Grand Mosque and there was a roundabout near it.

Unfortunately, the apparent roundabout was under construction and it actually had many exits. T_T

In short, we got lost. :p

Wadi Shab

This post is part of a series on our trip to Oman in October 2012, during the celebration of Eid Al Adha holidays. The temps have finally simmered down, perfect for the outdoors, yay:)

So after our early morning episode of “jumping overload” at the amazing Bimmah Sinkhole, we headed to our next destination and highlight of our trip, the beautiful Wadi Shab.

Beautiful Wadi Shab

Wadi Shab is where the 2012 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series Finals was held recently (27.09.12), and we were very curious to see and experience the place ourselves, 🙂

Muscat Evening Tour: Muttrah Souk, Corniche & Riyam Park

This post is part of a series on our trip to Oman in October 2012, during the celebration of Eid Al Adha holidays. The temps have finally simmered down, perfect for the outdoors, yay:)

After a super jam-packed morning tour of Muscat and a missed chance for an afternoon siesta, we continue exploring Muscat at sundown.

Muttrah Corniche, Sultan Qaboos Port & the Gulf of Oman

Sir Roger came to pick us up at 5 pm and we headed for Muttrah. If in the morning we just passed by the area, this time we got out of the car and explored the whole area on foot. 🙂

Muscat Day Tour: Muttrah, Qantab and Qurum Beach

This post is part of a series on our trip to Oman in October 2012, during the celebration of Eid Al Adha holidays. The temps have finally simmered down, perfect for the outdoors, yay:)

After about 12 hours of restful, uninterrupted sleep, we’re up for our Day 2!

And as we travelled far south yesterday to marvel at the surreal beauty of Wadi Bani Khalid & Muqal Cave, our route for the day will be “nearby.”

That is, in and around Muscat

We got on the road and yet again, pass by the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque with its striking golden dome. Too bad we didn’t had a chance to visit inside, next time therefore. 🙂

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

Our hotel map / guide indicated that it’s located near to both the Beach and the Grand Mosque. True, but not “across the street near.” More like a kilometer near, Muscat is soooo huge lah! 🙂

photo op stop over @ Ibra, Ash Sharqiyah

We got out of Seeb International Airport at half past 5 in the morning and as it’s too early for hotel check-in, we decided to proceed already with our Day 1 roadtrip. Yes, agad agad. 🙂

Seeb, Muscat to Ibra & Wadi Bani Khalid – 235kms

After breakfast at a nearby Mc Donald’s, we got out of Route 1 and into Route 23 highway headed for Ibra, Ash Sharqiyah. Google map computations indicate a total of 235 kms for the trip. Lampas pa ata ng byaheng Malasiqui – Manila hehehe.
