SEA Series Part 3: Pha That Luang & Xieng Khuan Buddha Park

This post is part of a series on my 16-day Mainland South East Asian trip with college buddies across Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam.

I have been looking forward to a trip with my college best friends since we graduated in 2005. Hence I was so elated when two of them were able to join me. It was like college once again, minus the Departmental Exams. 🙂

And yes, tapos na Part 2 ng CIPS exams ko kaya pwede na ko magblog ulit, i have my life back! LOL

Aaaaaaaaaahhhh!!! 🙂

After a great day of sightseeing + walkathon kahapon capped by a nice dinner with Weng, it’s Day 3 of this epic trip. Good Morning Vientiane!

Maaga kaming gumising nina Weng and her Mom for more sightseeing of Vientiane. Our first stop was Pha That Luang Park, just south of her place near Patuxay Park.

We went inside (need to remove shoes) and observed and admired the intricate details of the temple.

When we went out, we saw this vendor. It was a hot sunny day, very apt mag ice cream 🙂

ice cream, Lao style

With our ice cream sticks, we headed to Pha That Luang

loaded up on water – it was a hot, sunny day

Paglabas namin, Weng called one of the vendors ng little birds. Sabi niya, for good luck para daw sa mga first time magpunta dine.

So her mom and I had a little bird each, whispered our wish and then let it fly. 🙂

Let it become true…

Go fly little bird! 🙂

Walking back toward Patuxay, Weng asked me if I went up the gate the previous day. Kako hindi, kasi sarado na at pagod nako sa maghapong paglalakad. She told me i should go up for the view and the experience, kung di pa ko pagod. Yalla! 🙂

Up Patuxay Gate

Hindi ko nabilang kung ilang steps pero mataas sya teh, hehe. Pero mahangin naman sa taas with a nice view overlooking Vientiane kaya sulit na rin ang pagod. May mga souvenir shops pala inside, along the way to the top. I bought some items, Weng haggled for me. Thanks ulit! 🙂

Then we went down, rested a bit and decided it’s time for lunch. Malapit lang mall so we proceeded there.

Sa foodcourt, Weng guided us to buy the vouchers at the booth, then go around to select our food. All yum! 🙂

lunch – Lao cuisine

After lunch, we checked our time and we still had enough time for Xieng Khuan Buddha Park.

Weng made it more convenient by hiring a whole van for just the three of us, anggaling nya maghaggle, hehe.

Medyo malayo ang Budhha Park, isang oras yata byahe from Vientiane, medyo bumpy ang daan, pero we arrived ok naman,

After roaming around and taking pictures for  couple of hours, we headed to Nong Khai train station.

Nihatid ako nina Weng dine then they proceeded to do their grocery before going back to Vientiane.

Took some pictures while waiting for boarding. The station was clean and spacious.

sleeper train back to Bangkok

I was on the upper bunk this time, naubusan ako ng lower bed eh. OK naman sya. Medyo hassle pag-akyat / baba whenever I have to pee hehe. May WIFI so I had a chance to check stuff online, before I headed to dreamland, zzzzzzz….

When I woke up, it was early morning already. Hello again Bangkok! 🙂

Next: Excited to see the Mystical Yangon!
